POOLS

There are two outdoor pools available to all guests at Villa Lena, as well as a children’s pool. The main pool is located next to the San Michele building and restaurant and has extraordinary vistas across the Tuscan landscape. The area was recently renovated to incorporate shaded seating around the poolside bar. Don’t despair if you are joining us for the cooler spring and autumn months as the San Michele pool is heated. A 10 minute walk from San Michele is a secluded pool in the garden of the Renacchi building, with sun loungers, a play ground and open grass. Guests staying at Casetta Bella also have the benefit of their own private swimming pool.

YOGA

Practice yoga indoors or outside at Villa Lena. The newly renovated Fattoria building features a vast indoor yoga studio, perfect for retreats and private classes. Or get your flow on surrounded by nature on our yoga deck which is discreetly tucked behind the San Michele pool, overlooking an olive grove and with panoramic views to the Apennine mountains to the north. The wooden deck, designed by a previous Villa Lena Foundation artist-in-residence Fred Rigby, measures 14 x 7 metres and has running water, electricity and a sail canopy for shade. Yoga mats can be provided but guests are also welcome to use their own.

RECEPTION AND SHOP

The hotel reception on the ground floor of Fattoria is a quiet space with a spacious lounge area that showcases Villa Lena’s ambitious social and cultural objectives. It features an original fireplace and limited edition prints made by previous Villa Lena Foundation artists in residence in collaboration with a master etching studio in Florence, Il Bisonte. You will also find unique artworks from the Villa Lena Foundation collection and important pieces of Italian design such as the Tahiti Lamp by Ettore Sottsass, from the seminal days of the Memphis group. There is also a small shop showcasing artistic collaborations, alongside Villa Lena products including olive oil and wine.

THE BARS

You can enjoy cocktails and drinks in our San Michele bar, located in a cosy corner of the restaurant. Regular cocktail workshops are hosted here so you can learn the secrets of classic Italian cocktails with our local bartender. The San Michele pool bar is open daily from 3pm until late, offering fresh snacks, local organic wines, artisanal beers and signature Villa Lena cocktails. It’s the perfect place to take it in the dramatic sunsets whilst enjoying an aperitivo. Post-dinner DJ sets and dancing often ensue. What else could you want?

SCREENING ROOM

Our home cinema is used for film screenings and artists’ talks, and is available for guest use outside programmed events. Select a DVD from our collection of foreign films and enjoy an immersive experience with a state of the art BOSE surround sound system. Next to the screening room is the library which is a quiet place to relax with a book or play the piano, and also where we hold live music performances.

WORK FROM WHEREVER

Some of us still need to log on whilst on holiday, and others can work from whenever in the world they fancy anyway! We have a quiet space with air conditioning, comfy seats as well as desks and a good wifi connection so that when you need to focus you can do so in comfort and style. Find our co-working space in Fattoria, just next to the yoga studio.

GAMES

Villa Lena has games distributed all around the property, suitable for all ages! Have a go at pool or table football in Fattoria or play ping pong by the pool. Our pétanque court is fun for all ages and can be found behind the bar next to the San Michele pool.

KIDS

Kids of all ages are welcome at Villa Lena and can even stay for free aged 3 or under! There is plenty here to keep them occupied too. On the ground floor of the Villa, in the Library Room you can find colouring and drawing materials. The bookshelves house a number of children’s books, alongside art journals and publications featuring former artists-in-residence. San Michele pool has a children’s pool for the kids to splash around in and you can also find a range of water toys, inflatable armbands and other equipment for a sunny day by the pool by the changing rooms. Renacchi pool’s grass area has a slide and other playground activities available for children. Most of our workshops and creative activities are kids friendly or can be adapted for our little guests interest.

BICYCLES

If you’re brave enough to take on the Tuscan hills, mountain bikes are available at reception. The nearest town of Palaia is only 30 minutes downhill – at which point you can refuel on coffee and gelato before starting the slightly longer journey back up! For the more committed cross-country cyclist, Villa Lena offers unsurpassable landscape that guests can explore on two wheels.

ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING

We are committed to using more green energy at Villa Lena, so you can reduce your carbon footprint by travelling here in your electric vehicle. We have installed an electric car charger on site and welcome all green motor voyagers to use it.

OUTDOOR SPACES

Villa Lena’s grounds stretch across 500-hectares of rolling Tuscan countryside, incorporating wild woodland, carefully maintained vineyards and organic vegetable gardens, renovated parkland on the site of a medieval village, and peaceful olive groves throughout. Enjoy a leisurely nature walk immersed in the wilderness by following one of the signposted trails through the estate or take a hamper to a secluded spot for a delicious picnic. Drink in breathtaking views of expansive vistas across Tuscany and the Apennine Mountains as you explore nearby Toiano, a deserted village now occupied by stray cats with, or climb to the top of the medieval parkland at Toiano Vecchio to survey the land from the highest land in the vicinity.
