A mix of feelings, always, after a heady celebration, including exhaustion and sadness, a come down from the peak of the evening.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m writing this while listening to Caleb Moore\u2019s music, our current musician-in-residence, who performed that night, keeping the memory warm and close. If I were to write this up fragment by fragment, it would start with his set\u2014acoustic guitar in hand, silhouetted against the vying yellows and greens of the Tuscan hills, the Villa Lena pool in front, his Blade Runner sunglasses catching the last of the evening light. My nine-year-old daughter tearing up the dance floor. Earlier, it was Dante\u2014five years old, son of Veronica Buitron, another artist in residence\u2014who stole the show with his moves to Caleb\u2019s music, in front of all the guests. This is Veronica\u2019s first family residency where she could come with her child and her husband to work on her art of botanical dying.<\/p>\n<p><!-- FULL WIDTH \/ CENTER IMAGE --><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 22px 0 22px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 0 auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.villa-lena.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/3fc4c4bd-787e-aed3-c40f-eb6679977830.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0 0 22px 0;\">\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent\" style=\"margin: 0 0 14px 0;\">A moment of appreciation for the weather: below 30\u00b0C, with a gentle breeze, I don\u2019t remember a July ever being so delectable. As the sun dipped, so did the temperature affording us a rare luxury of putting jackets, sweaters on, shuffling our chairs closer together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mcePastedContent last-child\" style=\"margin: 0;\">Fragments from the studio visits, the beginning of the event\u2014Freya Bramble Carter\u2019s ceramics, bursting with life: \u201cfull of joy, we shouldn\u2019t forget,\u201d she said. Leonie Cameron\u2019s dainty knit-sculptures. Ruba Salameh\u2019s abstract paintings. Veronica\u2019s Buitron\u2019s alchemist atelier. In true Italian fashion, it felt like a big family affair\u2014our own wine, our own olive oil, vegetables pulled from the garden that morning, strange and beautiful vases filled with flowers from the fields.
